Oldfield School in Bath, then Wellsway School in Keynsham to do my A Levels, then the University of the West of England (UWE) to do my degree.
I have GCSEs in English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Music and German. I have A Levels in Physics, Maths and Music.
When I left school I worked at the Holiday Inn making coffee! Then I became a Teaching Assistant and worked with children with Autism. I went to university when I was 23 years old. When I finished university after 3 years, I did a graduate scheme where I got to try lots of different roles for 6 months at a time.

Favourite thing to do in my job: Helping to reduce the environmental impact of our aeroplanes.
I am 29 years old and I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking.
I’m from Bristol and me and my husband have just had a baby who is 5 months old, called Albert. I’m currently on maternity leave which means I am taking a year off work to look after Albert. I enjoy road cycling and try to go out at least once a week. One of my favourite TV programmes is The Yorkshire Vet. My favourite takeaway is curry.
I am an Aerospace Engineer which means I look after aeroplanes. In my job I make sure that the aeroplanes are safe to fly - making sure they have been repaired and don't have anything wrong with them that would make them crash!
Unfortunately I can’t show you any pictures because I am not allowed, but in my work I make sure that the aeroplanes are being maintained so they do not become broken, because this would mean they would be dangerous to fly.
I am very passionate about the environment and as an Aerospace Engineer I want to do everything I can to make sure our aeroplanes do as little damage to the environment as possible. I said before that I am on maternity leave, so I’m not working right now, but when I go back to work in January 2022 I want to become an environmental expert so I can help others learn how to make our planes more environmentally friendly.
My Typical Day: I start work around 8.30am, by logging on to my laptop. We have a team meeting and then I get on with my tasks. I have some lunch around 12pm and I may have some more meetings in the afternoon. I finish work around 4.30pm.
Before I started maternity leave I was working from home. At around 8.30am I would go into the spare room where my desk is set up and turn on my laptop.
My tasks include:
-speaking to pilots about any equipment they might need (you can’t take any equipment onto the aeroplane unless it is approved by engineers!)
-having meetings to discuss any issues with how the planes are flying
-creating and delivering presentations to show that the aeroplanes are safe to fly
What I'd do with the money
I want to help to teach young people what engineering is and what engineers do.
Before I did my degree in Aerospace Engineering I didn’t really know what engineering was or what an engineer did. If I won the money I would use it to help teach young people about engineering so that they can choose it as a career if it sounds interesting to them. I want to teach young people that there’s lots of different types of engineering and different engineers need lots of different qualities, for example being creative or enjoying maths (you don’t need to be both!).
With the money I would like to arrange sessions where young people can just have a general chat and get to know an engineer – both on a personal level and a professional level, to show that engineering is a career suitable for so many different people.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
smiley, enthusiastic, caring
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
I researched into how composite materials can be recycled - because at the moment they are thrown away.
What or who inspired you to follow your career?
No one in particular. But I used to enjoy going to Air Cadets where I got to fly in a 2 seater aeroplane - that's why I chose Aerospace Engineering
What was your favourite subject at school?
Music or science
What did you want to be after you left school?
I didn't know! It changed from physiotherapist, interior designer, pilot!
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Sometimes..usually for talking too much in class!
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?

What's your favourite food?
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Flown a plane solo (on my own!!)
