Yes. When I was younger, I didn’t have many role models. My role model now is a lady called Sharon. She works at my previous company, and she didn’t start her working life as an engineer. She’s worked her way up through various roles to become an engineer, and I think that’s a lot harder than being an engineer from the start. She’s so knowledgeable and always tries her best to share that knowledge. She really inspired me when I was younger, as she is so passionate about engineering and ensuring everyone had the same chance at working as an engineer!

My role model is my Grandad – he was born into a very poor family and ended up doing quite well with a good job in the Goverment, he never complains and always thinks about other people.
I don’t really have any role models that are engineers – not when I was young anyway – although there’s plenty who I work with now that I respect.

I don’t have any one role model but I get lots of inspiration from other engineers and people I meet at different events, when I learn about how they got to where they are and what they do.

I’ve had this question a lot, so think there’s a bit of pressure to have career role models. I haven’t always had career role models, as when I was younger I didn’t know engineers at all! What I do have are lots of role models for the kind of person I want to be, rather than a role model for my career. These role models are my mum, one of my school teachers and some of my friends.
