I chose to become an engineer because I was good at science, but also loved being creative and engineering seemed to combine both science and creativity.
I studied mechanical engineering because there are so many different careers you can choose to have with a mechanical engineering degree (from designing cars, to working in a bank, or becoming a teacher) and I wanted to have all the options!
I was also interested in things like using engineering to make 3D printed bones and I knew that I could choose more bio-mechanical engineering lessons near the end of my degree at univeristy if I wanted too… which is what I did in the end.

Hey Osman! I actually did Mechanical Engineering at university, although this isn’t my job now. When I was at school I loved Science and the reason for this is that I loved learning new things then seeing how we could use this in real life. When I did my degree we looked at things like bridges, buildings and cars which was so interesting.

I think I liked the idea of building useful things for people (for example, bridges) and being able to say to people that I helped make it happen.

I also love seeing how things work and thinking about ways to improve them, so engineering is a great choice for that too.

I didn’t actually know I wanted to be an engineer. I studied Physics and thought I wanted to be a scientist and then I found a graduate training scheme at the BBC in engineering, which looked really interesting. So I did that for two years and had so much fun I’ve never left 🙂
