This depends on your knowledge and experience. I’ve recently graduated and had over a year’s experience when I started my role, so I earn £35,000. Starting in my role, the salary can start from £20,000 and go up to around £50,000.

When you gain more experience and knowledge, you can become a senior or principal engineer and the salary can then easily go up to £100,000 and more if you’re a manager.

Its most recent survey, published in 2014, reported that the median annual earnings (including bonuses, overtime pay etc) was £63,000 for a chartered Civil Engineer. This matches what I earn pretty well..

Most graduates get £30k plus car and living allowance if living away from home.

My current basic is £62,000 after 8/9 years of working in my industry – when I started out after university my wage was £33,000, once I completed my training this jumped to £42,000, once I started working in management this jumped to £55,000 and since then my wage has gone up each year with small job changes and inflation.

As a Civil Engineer it can be a bit less than some other engineering jobs, but still comfortable! When I started after University I earned £24,000 but that’s gone up in the last five years by about 50%. It depends on the type of work and the industry within that type too.
I work in the water industry which is generally a bit lower but more secure and constant – there will always be work and jobs available because there’s always a need to look at water. Others who work on structural buildings or oil and gas will earn a bit more – but there’s more risk of their work drying up depending on what the economy does (if no-one wants to build new buildings there’s less work for civil engineers).

I get £40k for being a senior engineer but the starting basic salary for graduate engineers is about £23k, on top of this is any overtime (usually paid at 1.5 your hourly rate for every hour more a week you work), site allowances (allowances for working away from home – extra is paid if you are in certain environments e.g. offshore ), bonuses and/or benefits. This usually increases yearly as you gain experience and with inflation.

But your salary will be dependent on what your company can afford and the industry you work in.

I earn £30 per hour and choose how much i work each week. Typically i will work 3 days and take Thursday to Sunday off.

During my career i have earned over £65000 per annum and have a good pension to enjoy the rest of my life without stress.
