Hardest job I’ve ever done is probably developing/programming an Excel spreadsheet with VBA macros, which used all customer inputs and requirements to automatically calculate all required product dimensions, create a technical assembly drawing in x-y plot, calculate the resultant performance characterics, produce a product validation test procedure and define safe load capacities, plotted non-linear deformations and estimated a safe fatigue life. It took me months to finalise this tool, but it has reduced product engineering and quotation lead times for from many days to a few hours only, and it removed potential engineering mistakes and human error. I validated the tool with many physical tests and its accuracy was jaw dropping. There is no longer a need to re-engineer a quoted product, as all detailed engineering is already completed using this spreadsheet.
